I'm not actively seeking logo or branding projects, so I'm not sure if I will add this to my portfolio, but wanted to share work I made last summer for a pet supply store in Kalamazoo, MI called Barks in the Zoo. The couple who own the store were hoping to incorporate their two fur babies, pup Suki and kitty Sue, into the brand. I created a logo and some brand illustrations for use in their marketing designs.
Holy shit. I got my green card. After two long years of delays and unknowns, the damn thing just showed up casually in the mail, unannounced, last Sunday afternoon. And I have FEELINGS.
Read moreI was recently featured on the "dlog" over at Awoo Pets. They are a small company based out of New York making sustainable pet accessories from recycled plastic. Hello! It's March today. Thought I'd do a bit of a round up of what went on in my life the past month. Also I'm just realizing I didn't do a year in review post (which I have done the previous two years). I guess it felt like the year didn't really end since we are still in lockdown.

Hello! Here for a weekly update, but it's actually the last three weeks, really. I had my first ever Instagram story sale, so I thought I'd chat about that a bit and how it went. Before accepting the fact that I needed to rest my wrist and take an extended break from art, I started up a daily gouache practice. Gouache is something I've been meaning to learn for several years. I love the opaque and chalky look of it and the vibrancy of the colours. I bought a 24 colour set of gouache paints from Arteza, a more affordable option to the Windsor & Newton and Holbein varieties that I see all over Instagram. I got the paints, tried them once, and then they sat in a pouch on my art shelf for eight months. I'm sure that's a relatable series of events, especially with something aspirational like art supplies.

This is something everyone comes to realize as you get older...and I recognize that being in my late twenties is not what a lot of people consider "old," but still, I feel I've passed a tipping point where random aches, bruises, twinges all have a bit more of a feeling of doom attached to them. The past month or so I've been dealing with the latest such occurrence, a sharp, spreading pain down my wrist from the base of my palm to about halfway down my elbow.

To make this illustrated scene, I followed Abbey Lossing's Skillshare tutorial. I think the tutorial is a good project-based way to learn After Effects, but I would say maybe it would be better as a second or third project, rather than your first time opening the program.
